AACE Urges U.S. Congress to Prioritize and Support
Cancer Education and Research
16 March 2025
The American Association for Cancer Education (AACE) is deeply concerned about the potential implications of changes across U.S. federal agencies and departments, impacting all stakeholders in cancer research and education, as reported in recent news coverage. As a nonpartisan, apolitical organization dedicated to advancing evidence-based cancer education, research, and public health initiatives on domestic and global fronts, we recognize the critical role that these agencies play in funding, policy development, and support for the scientific and public health workforce.
Disruptions within Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and USAID could have significant consequences for cancer education, prevention, screening, treatment access, and research funding—areas that directly impact our mission and the communities we serve. We urge the U.S. government to prioritize cancer research and education and evidence-based decision-making, uphold scientific integrity, and ensure that public health initiatives remain free from political interference.
AACE stands in solidarity with our members, researchers, educators, and healthcare professionals who rely on stable and well-supported cancer education and public health infrastructures, which depend on government funding and support. AACE encourages its members to stay informed and involved, listen to the voices of impacted community members, and contact your local, state, and national elected officials with your concerns. We will continue to monitor developments and collaborate with partner organizations to advocate for policies that protect and advance cancer education and public health.
